How classflix courses are organized

Courses are complete, not random examples.

High school credits are based on 150 hours of "seat instructional hours". While it is true that many homeschooling students do not need to spend the same amount of time invested in a classroom where all students must wait for the last student before they can advance, it is also true that students who do not complete all of the lesson material, or only do some of the problems in the book, will find (as the concepts build) that they are missing some unknown piece because they skipped that part. It's not that they can't learn algebra, it's that they must invest time and energy in the mastery of concepts.

If a student doesn't do all the work (no matter how tedious), they haven't really earned the credit.

Understanding and mastery require a thorough covering of all concepts, which is why a few on-line tutorials do not constitute a real high school course, nor does it adequately prepare a student for the next level. This is why ClassFlix uses high quality textbooks like Saxon that have been proven over time for all of our classes.

Every lesson & test is scheduled into daily assignments.

No lesson plans needed! Every lesson or lesson part and every test is assigned a day on the schedule! You plan the actual days to do math, but the guess work of how much is needed to complete each day of course work is provided. An example is: Algebra I, Day Eleven, which is divided into four separate video segments and covers lesson nine from the Saxon text.

         >Day Eleven: Lesson 9

                        11.1 Saxon Algebra I Day 11 Part 1
Lesson 9A: Rules for Multiplication of Signed Numbers
                                                Multiplication Rules Illustrated
                                                Assign Practice Problem a, b, c & d

                        11.2 Saxon Algebra I Day 11 Part 2
                                                Review Practice Problems a, b, c & d

                        11.3 Saxon Algebra I Day 11 Part 3
                                    Lesson 9B: Inverse Operations
Lesson 9C: Rules for Division of Signed Numbers
                                                Illustrations a, b & c
                                                Practice Problems e & f as examples
                                                Assign Practice Problems g & h
                       11.4 Saxon Algebra I Day 11 Part 4
                                                Review Practice Problems g & h
Assign Homework Problem Set 9: 1-30, odd

Every concept is illustrated and explained.

Most lessons begin with an explanation of the new concept, or a review of the concept that will be added to in the lesson. These concepts are explained just as in a traditional classroom. We do not assume the student will remember what came before this lesson, or last year; it's reviewed. Then, it’s on to the example problems.

Every example problem is worked in detail.

There is no substitute for seeing a math problem worked on the board while the instructor points out why each step takes place in the order that it does. This is where true understanding of the material is achieved. Once a concept has been illustrated and all of the examples that go with the first part of the lesson have been worked, the student is assigned the appropriate practice problem(s) for that part of the lesson.

Every practice problem is reviewed for mastery!

At this point, the video will stop and the students work the assigned practice problem. When they are finished, they play Part Two of the lesson where the practice problem is worked by the teacher, both to review the concept and show the students where any corrections are required, if any. If that is the only concept taught in the lesson, the homework assignment will be given on the last screen, but, most of the time, there are additional parts to the lesson.
